Vision

To be a leading and distinguished center for teaching and criticizing Arabic literature, and researching its classical and contemporary issues, in a way that contributes to preserving the Arabic literary heritage and developing its readings in light of modern critical approaches, and interacting with cultural and intellectual changes at the local and global levels.

Mission

The Department of Literary Studies aims to prepare qualified scientific cadres specializing in Arabic literature and criticism, capable of studying and analyzing literary texts with a precise scientific analysis. This is achieved by combining the Arab critical heritage with modern approaches, equipping students with the necessary skills for academic research and artistic appreciation, and enabling them to contribute to the cultural and intellectual advancement of society.

Objectives
  1. Deepening the understanding of the history of Arabic literature and its intellectual and aesthetic currents throughout its various periods.
  2. To equip students with the skills to analyze literary texts using both classical and modern critical methodologies.
  3. To introduce students to prominent figures in Arabic literature, including poets, writers, and critics, and to highlight their contributions to the development of literary art.
  4. To stimulate students’ critical and aesthetic awareness in engaging with literary texts, both poetry and prose.
  5. To encourage rigorous scholarly research in the fields of Arabic literature and criticism, thereby contributing to the enrichment of Arabic scholarship.
  6. To serve the community by disseminating literary and cultural awareness and participating in intellectual and literary activities.
  7. To achieve intellectual integration with other departments within the Faculty, within a comprehensive framework that strengthens language, identity, and culture.
