First year:
(a) History of Literature: Pre-Islamic literature and its general influences – its language – its recording – its sources – its documentation – pre-Islamic poetry – biographies of prominent figures of this era.
(b) Literature and Texts: An analytical study of pre-Islamic literary texts – a study of the literary phenomena of the era – readings in literary sources and an introduction to major literary references.
Second year:
(a) History of Literature: The Early Islamic Era (Islam and Arab Life – the influence of the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Hadith on language and literature – Islam and Poetry) Prose (Oratory and its developmental factors – Writing and its evolution).
The Umayyad Era (Literary life and its developments – Writing and Oratory – Literary Translations).
(b) Literature and Texts: A study of texts from the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Hadith – a study of poetic and prose texts from the Umayyad and early Islamic eras, and memorization of excerpts.
Third Year:
(a) History of Literature: Abbasid and Andalusian Literature (General Influences – Development of Poetry in Each – Divisions of Each Literature – Literary Biographies of Each Era).
(b) Literature and Texts: Study and Analysis of Literary Texts – Literary Examples from the Abbasid and Andalusian Eras and Memorization of Excerpts – Literary Biographies of Prominent Literary Figures.
Fourth Year:
(a) History of Literature: General Influences on Modern and Contemporary Literature – Modern Literature and its Various Genres and Artistic Trends in Poetry, Novels, Short Stories, Plays, and Essays – Introduction to the Pioneers of Various Literary Genres and Their Place in the Literary Movement.
(b) Literature and Texts: Study and Memorization of Selected Modern Poetry – Textual Reading and Analysis of Selected Plays, Novels, Short Stories, and Essays – Analytical Study.
