(a) Introduction to Rhetorical and Critical Studies: The history of rhetorical and critical studies among the Arabs and Greeks – its development and methodology.
(b) Arabic Rhetoric (1): The Science of Semantics and Figures of Speech: An introduction to the origins of rhetoric and its terminology – a study of some figures of speech – critical issues related to the terms eloquence and rhetoric – topics in the science of semantics and the study of expressive styles such as declarative and imperative sentences.
Second Year:
(a) Classical Literary Criticism: Issues in classical Arabic criticism such as: word and meaning – the structure of a poem – the issue of plagiarism.
(b) Arabic Rhetoric (2): The Science of Eloquence: An analytical study of figures of speech such as simile, metaphor, and metonymy.
Third Year:
Modern Literary Criticism and Comparative Literature: The origins of comparative literature – its development – its schools – research trends within it – a comparative study with an applied study of a comparative topic between Arabic literature and world literatures.
Fourth Year:
Modern Literary Criticism: Theory of Poetry and the Development of its Concept – Components of the Modern Poem – The Origins of Drama in Ancient Greek Literature – The Origins of Narrative Art in European Literature – Literary Schools – A Critical Study and Analysis of a Number of Contemporary Egyptian Novels.
