The Supreme Council of Universities’ session no. 698 was held on 21st March 21-2020, where they discussed the future plans of study in universities in frame of the developments in the International situation of the spread of COVID 19, and the need to take the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease and in light of the President’s decision to suspend study for two weeks. At the beginning of the session, the Council appreciated the Egyptian state’s decisions to preserve Egyptians’ health and all the efforts exerted by Egypt’s ministries and sectors to achieve this.
The Council also urged the citizens to abide by the state’s decisions to limit Coronavirus spread, and also thanked all Academic staff, their assistants and all university employees for their quick and distinct support for the Distance learning system, and they pay special tribute to all Physicians, nursing staff, technical and administrative staff of the Egyptian hospitals.
The council stressed on the priority of Students’, Academic staff’s and employees’ health and all necessary measures are taken to preserve them, so it decided the following:
- Confirming completion of the declared emergency plan to counteract Coronavirus inside universities buildings and facilities including constant sterilization and disinfection.
- Confirming the supreme council of hospitals decisions in its session which was held on 19/3/2020.
- Continuing Distance learning system during suspension period in accordance with procedures to ensure continuing education process for second semester, and the faculties which have practical exams, the exams will postpone after study resumption or in the summer.
- Coordination with ministry of communication and information technology to provide free access and use of e-learning platforms
- In case of continuing study suspension after the announced date, the mid-term exams of the second semester will be canceled.
- Postponing second semester exams, it will not be held before 30/5/2020 according to the schedules that will be announces by each university.
- For postgraduate studies, will be determined by each university as it deems appropriate, and the suspension period will not be added to the required period for getting the scientific degree.
- The council is in permanent session to follow all the updates and take the necessary measures committed to state’s plan to preserve citizens’ health.
