Grammar is studied throughout the year in all four years of study.
First Year:
- a) Grammar: Sentence components: sentence prefixes, noun, verb, particle, inflection and indeclinability, definite and indefinite nouns, nominal sentences, verbal sentences, subject, passive subject, objects, adverbial phrase, specification, prepositions, genitive construction, exclamation, modifiers, vocative case.
(b) Morphology: Conjugation of verbs: conjugation, morphological scale, the basic and derived forms, triliteral verb forms, formation of the present tense from quadriliteral, quinqueliteral and hexaliteral verbs – transitivity and intransitivity of the verb – immutability and conjugation of the verb, emphasis of the present tense verb – assigning verbs to pronouns.
Second year:
(a) Grammar: Sentence Preliminaries and Elements: A Detailed Study:
Speech and its components – inflected and uninflected words – indefinite and definite nouns, proper nouns, demonstrative pronouns, relative pronouns, nouns with a definite article, the beginning of a sentence, the verbs of being (kana and its sisters) – verbs similar to “laysa” (not) – verbs of approximation – the verbs of being (inna and its sisters) – the negating “la” (not) – the verbs of thinking (dhanna and its sisters) – “a’lama” (I know) and “araa” (I see) – the subject – the passive subject – the predicate – the grammatical conflict – the absolute object – the object of purpose – the adverbial – the object of accompaniment.
(b) Morphology and Prosody:
1- Morphology:
Noun conjugation: verbal noun forms – active and passive participles and adjectives – intensive forms – superlative verbs – instrument nouns – nouns of time and place.
2- Prosody: Simple meters: Kamil – Wafir – Rajaz – Hazaj – Ramal – Mutaqarib – Mutadarak.
Third Section:
(a) Grammar:
Sentence complements: exception, adverbial phrase, specification, prepositions, genitive construction, verbal noun usage, active participle, exclamation, The verbs niʿma (how excellent) and biʾsa (how bad) and other expressions that function in the same way”.
(b) Morphology and Prosody:
1- Morphology:
Dual formation of nouns, forming adjectives of relation (nisba), and diminutive formation Feminization – the dual and plural forms of maqṣūr, manqūṣ, and mamdūd nouns – broken plurals – diminutive formation – and the formation of Nasab (relational adjectives).
2- Prosody:
Compound meters: Tawil (long), Basit (simple), Madid (long), Khafif (light), Sari’ (swift), Munsarih (flowing), Mujtath (truthful), Muqtadab (concise), and Mudari’ (present).
Fourth year:
(a) Grammar:
Dependent Words and the Conjugation of the Present Tense: Adjective – Emphasis – Apposition – Coordination – Substitution – Vocative – Supplication – Lamentation – Truncation – Specialization – Warning and Enticement – Verbal and Onomatopoeic Nouns – Indeclinable Nouns – Conjugation of the Present Tense Verb – Number – Pause.
(b) Morphology and Rhyme:
1- Morphology: Vowel changes and substitutions: Vowel change by transposition – Vowel change by deletion and its relation to derivation and phonetic harmony.
2- Rhyme: Its definition – its types – its letters – its defects.
