Aswan University participates in opening the center of excellence for water funded by USAID

In frame of Aswan University distinct Activities in implementing Egypt vision 2013 and increasing effectiveness in international cooperation, Aswan university president Prof/ Ahmed Ghallab, Prof. Hani Madkour participated in opening the center of excellence for water funded by USAID on Thursday 12/9/2019 and that in attendance of Alexandria Governor Prof/ Abdel-Aziz Konsowa _ and Higher Education Minister and Dr. Essam El-Kordy _Alexandria University President, American university president in Egypt and the head of USAID program in Egypt.

It is the biggest funded project in Aswan University that it costs $ 30 million. Through a coalition of American Universities (Washington, California, Santa Cruz, Utah and Temple with Egyptian universities represented in the universities of Ain Shams, Alexandria, Aswan, Beni Seuf and Zagazig.

 

Aswan University preparations for African universities week in October

 

Aswan University President Prof. Ahmed Ghallab declared that 19 African countries will participate in the events of the African Universities Week which will be held from 19 to 25 next October in frame of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s declaration that Aswan is the capital of African youth for 2019. The participating countries are Nigeria, Chad, Somalia, Mali, Central Africa, Benin, Republic of Malawi, Senegal, Tanzania, Niger, Republic of Uganda, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Gabon, Cameroon, Togo, Liberia, Sudan and Côte d’Ivoire.

The African Universities week will include students from 20 Egyptian Universities; the university established 5 players and tennis playgrounds in university headquarter in Sahary preparing for this week, works started in establishing a stadium of 1000 audience capacity in addition to Beach soccer playground and preparing the covered and open theatre to host artistic events of this week.

The chairman of supreme organizing committee of the African universities week of Aswan University Prof. Abd Al- Rahman Abd Al- Baset added that the students of faculty of physical education are training daily since July on the sports shows of the inauguration celebration that will be held at Aswan Stadium with participation of 2000 students.   

And every Participating delegation of the African and Egyptian Universities will include 10 students participating in a number of events and activities of art and sports.

Aswan University student wins first place in singing in the University Week for Special Needs

Student/Aya Mostafa Shahat_ second year student at faculty of Dar El-Uloom_ win the first place in singing competition after her outstanding performance of lyric “Enta Omri” by Umm Kulthum, in the competitions of the week.

Prof/ Adel Mobarak_ Menoufia University President, handed a certificate of appreciation to the student after winning the first prize in the singing competition which approved by the attendees and the jury.

Prof/ Ahmed Ghallab – Aswan University President _ confirmed that the university delegation is deeply involved in different art and sports competitions which are witnessed in the second university week that aims at exchange of experience and increasing knowledge Among students of Aswan University and other universities of the Republic.

Aswan University President supports University youth week of Special needs

Prof. Ahmed Ghallab Mohamed_ Aswan University President _ confirmed his support to all university students who are participating in the second university youth week for special needs which is held at Menoufia University under the slogan “we complete each other”.

He pointed out that the delegation of Aswan University participating in various social, sports, cultural, artistic and scouts competitions, it is expected that Aswan University students will get many awards.

It is noteworthy that the second university youth week at Menoufia University for disability Challenged persons, which is attended by 1500 students are belonging to 18 universities, that the idea started since 2018, on the occasion of that President. Abdel-fattah El-sisi dedicates this year to be a year for people with special needs in Egypt.

A remarkable turnout to Aswan University pavilion in Higher Education Exhibition

Prof/ Ahmed Ghalab_ Aswan University President_ confirmed that the university pavilion in the Higher Education Exhibition is witnessing high demand from students and their families to identify the distinctive educational programs.

This came in a press statement to Aswan University President in the second day of Higher Education Exhibition which is organized by Akhbar El yom Foundation, under patronage of Dr/ Khalid Abdel- Ghaffar_ Minister of Higher Education, _ and the Journalist/ Yaser Rizk_ Chairman of the governing council of Akhbar Al Youm Foundation and in attendance of a group of Egyptian universities presidents.

He added that the participation in the exhibition includes an explanation to all the educational programs offered by Aswan University, which includes 20 faculties in addition to the Institute of African Research and Studies, in attendance of Prof/ Hanan Abdel Moneim_ Vice President for Education and Students Affairs and Prof/ Abdel-Rahman Abdel-Baset _ Acting Vice President for Community Service and Environment Development.

And he pointed out that the number of students in Aswan University is increasing and currently reaches to 27 thousand students in various faculties, in addition to 6 thousand students in the postgraduate level and most Faculties are working in credit hours system.

Establishment of a psychiatric hospital and a medical research center in Aswan Al-Gadeda

Prof. Ahmed Ghaleb Mohammed _Aswan University president _ decided to establish a hospital for psychiatry, an advanced medical research center and one day clinics within a number of buildings in Aswan Al-Gadeda.

Prof/Ghallab accompanied by Prof/ Mohamed Zaki El-Dahshoury_ Faculty of Medicine dean and Dr. Abd-Allah Al-Obeidi, Director General of University Hospitals in Aswan_inspected the building of the Urban Center in Aswan Al-Gadeda and one of the other buildings after the transfer of their assets from Aswan Al-Gadeda to the university.

Dr. Ahmed Ghalab added that these new medical services come within the framework of the role of Aswan University to provide outstanding medical services to the people of the governorate and to promote development and construction in the Aswan Al-Gadeda, which has a promising future.

He explained that a psychiatric hospital will be established inside the first building to provide excellent treatment services and alleviate suffering to patients in various cities and centers of Aswan and neighboring governorates. The second building will include a center for advanced medical research and clinics for one day in the specialties of internal medicine, pediatrics, Gynecology and obstetrics, etc.

Dr. Mohammed Zaki Al Dahshouri_ Faculty of Medicine Dean in Aswan referred that the new medical research and outpatient center consists of a ground floor and two floors with 28 rooms. The equipment will be completed within two months. The advanced research center is one of the unique centers at level of Upper Egypt universities and it will be equipped with the latest national standards.

Dr. Abd-Allah Al-Obaidi_ Director General of the University Hospitals in Aswan_ explained that the research lab will be a center for providing advanced medical research services to the patients in the governorate and researchers in Faculty of Medicine and the various practical faculties at Aswan University and the corresponding faculties in the regional universities, as a simulation of human surgery to train young doctors.

Workshop on scholarships and funding research projects at Aswan University

Aswan University organized a workshop on scholarships and funding research projects in cooperation with the “Newton – Mosharafa Fund” under the auspices of Prof. Ahmed Ghalab, Aswan University President.

Prof. Ayman Osman_Vice President of Aswan University for Graduate Studies and Research declared that the workshop aims to encourage scientific research in university through the progress of various programs from the funding institutions. The workshop was attended by a number of Academic staff and officials of the Fund.

He added that the workshop highlighted the funding opportunities offered by the Newton- Mosharafa Fund, which is related to PhD students’ grants or other grants. The Fund supports scientific research in a set of academic disciplines and focuses on four developmental topics: water management, food production, health and new energy and renewable.

Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Vice-Dean of Aswan Faculty of Engineering, , said that the “Newton – Mosharafa Fund” is a partnership  between Egypt and the UK in science and scientific research fields for seven years, it’s worth is £ 50 million the fund brings together scientific research and innovation from both countries to find common solutions To the challenges facing Egypt in the field of economic development and social welfare.

A Course about the Basics of Geographic Systems at Aswan University

The Geographic information system and Remote Sensing unit at Aswan University organized a training course about the basics of geographic systems in the first activity of the new center after its opening.

The seminar was attended by Dr. Ahmed Ghallab Mohammed_ Aswan University President, Dr. Al-Sayed Ewais_ Director of the Center_ and the students participating in the course.

Ghallab confirmed that the Center for Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing was established at the university to provide the needs of southern Upper Egypt from geographical information especially to the environmental community and natural resources such as soil, water and air in order to achieve University goal in preserving the environment by detecting the different changes by Geographic information system.

He pointed out that the new center meets all information requests for governmental, private and scientific bodies based on the university orientation towards providing information to all society segments so that the preservation of the environment is a key factor in all projects and services implemented by these agencies.

Dr. Ewais added that GIS and remote sensing have become one of the most important means used to support decision-making in various ministries of the state. It is one of the most important means of planning and development. The center seeks to spread the cultural awareness of geographic information systems and using geographic information maps for all, Only where these systems are used to accomplish infrastructure and oil discoveries, locating Water wells sites, water and fisheries, and monitor and manage crises and natural disasters.

He pointed out that the center also organized another course to help students in preparing graduation projects with participation of (40) students. The center will organize a new course in geographic systems in July.

A delegation from the Measurement and Evaluation Center visited Aswan University to follow up the development works

Prof. Ahmed Ghallab, Aswan University President_ met with a delegation from the Measurement and Evaluation Center at Ministry of Higher Education to follow up workflow and development in the units of measurement and evaluation at university faculties.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Abdel Rahman Abdel Basset, Acting Vice President for Community Service and Environment Development, Deans of Faculties of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Nursing. Prof. Nadi Aziz, Director of the Measurement and Evaluation Center at the University and a number of Academic staff  in addition to a delegation from Measurement and Evaluation Center, which includes three members headed by Dr. Sahar Sayed Amin.

Ghallab declared that There are four units of measurement and evaluation in the university in faculties of agriculture, Nursing, education and literature, and we look forward to establishment of other units in all university faculties during the coming period in order to promote the educational process at university.

Dr. Sahar Sayed Amin added that the aim of the visit is to follow the assessment and measurement systems in University faculties, such as improving the work of censors and following up the electronic correction process which is carried out in accordance with the rules and regulations governing each Faculty. And the extraction of reports and conducting statistical analysis and other measures aimed at improving the educational process.
